The famous what?

I'll just leave this here.

GSOP Salzburg! Let's do this

We came to Salzburg yesterday ready for an epic week. Our friends Robert from Betsson, Tobias and Christoph from Betsafe joined us as well. After some planning we settled down in the hotel pub and had some beers and pizza. After a couple of hours it was time to move on. Both me and Tellef thought it would be a good idea to scout Salzburg. We ended up as many times before at the local strip club which was actually a old apartment, remade into a strip joint. Very cosy.

Today it's player arrival time! This is what the hotel lobby looks like today:

MMA Sparring

Some very light MMA sparring with Robert at Betsson/Betsafe last thursday at Maverick MMA. Even though we did it light, this resulted in a black eye. 6 oz gloves baby :)

The weekend

I could just leave this post blank to be honest. I didn't even leave the apartment for two days. Why you may ask? Well, GSOP Salzburg is coming up next week and with 70 Betsafe/Betssonites coming with us, I felt I needed to be fresh and rested. This is going to be awesome. Funny thing is I don't even own a jacket. The only peace of clothes that even resembled something to protect me from the cold got lost last week. Fuck it.

Me, Tellef and Franziska from Betsson are all leaving together tomorrow lunch. Gay Pontus and the lovely Francesca from Betfair is also flying with us and from Stockholm we have our hostess Sara who is also flying tomorrow.

We will own this event.

Am I Super Human?

Hello world. Today it's Friday, tomorrow it's Saturday, as a Youtube celebrity once put it. Couldn't agree more.

I've had a theory for quite some time that I'm super human. It all makes sense. Hear me out...

* Even though I was the one that climbed the highest trees as a kid, I've never broken any bone in my body
* I have never had any illness other than regular colds. It was about 10 years ago I had a fever
* I've never taken any particular medicine
* I'm not allergic to anything
* Once I got food poisoning and was sick as hell, the next day I was on a boat like a boss.

As you see, all points to the fact I am a super human. I'm still trying to figure out my super powers. I have the ability to not hear people that well sometimes, but I wouldn't call that a Super Power. Maybe I'm immortal and unbreakable. I would probably say it's about a 70-75% chance of that being the case, how ever I'm not sure I would like to commit myself to jumping from a building or get exposed to HIV just to prove a point. Maybe I could jump from a horse, or maybe a big chair. Let me think about it.

High stakes ball in a hole

We have a high stakes game of "ball in a hole" under way at the moment. Goal is to through a ball into the hole of the table. Ladies are also welcome to participate, from the women's tee of course,  which is about 1 step forward.

Jesper (in the purple shirt) is the champion in this game but has had a hard time lately. We suspect that his throwing arm might be injured.

Quiz night

Last Saturday, the lovely Betsson/Betsafe ladies Sandra, Sara, Isabelle and EmiliĆ© organized a quiz night. Now, this is not the first time they have done this. Every time since Emil (you know Emil, the pink candy car tattoo guy) moved here  he has won ALL quiz's. Of course everyone wanted to be in his team, and ladies man as he is, he ended up in a team with him and four girls... Story of his life.

Me and Emil had already our gambling nerve tickling since earlier that night after Omaha flips at Mc Donalds (yes, my deck of cards follow me anywhere) where i won €20 and one drink. That one drink turned out to be 5 bottles of vodka that night, but we'll come to that. Anyway, we had a side bet in the quiz of €10.

Quiz master Sandra

After aceing music hits like Jessica Simpson - These boots are made for walking, and naming the worlds largest island, I was pretty confident of my team and that we were going to win the quiz and take the mighty Emil down. But when the results came and showed that we had 49 points vs. Emils teams 56, me and my team once again realized that this was an impossible task. We had been defeated and humiliated.

The dream team

Naturally, heavy drinking commenced to swallow the sadness. "Tonight, we drink to forget", i declared. Emil, also drank, to celebrate. Now, when Emil drinks some things change in his personality. As a finnish person, you could say that his real self comes forward when drunk. Emil get's happy, outgoing and the weirdest ideas pop up to his brain. This often leads to bets and such, but now a days Emil has a strict no-betting-more-than-€10-at-a time-when-drunk policy. Instead, depending on moods, other ideas comes to his mind. Sometimes when feeling a bit frisky, girls is the only thing he sees and if you are a parent, you better lock your daughters up when Drunk frisky Emil turns his charm on. Other times, like during quiz night, Emil get's his party mood on and suggest getting a drink table. Which we eventually did. 5 bottles of Vodka and a poorer Emil later it was time to go home.

The tale of the epic Live Event Manager

Only one week left to GSOP Salzburg where Betsson/Betsafe will bring 70 players! It will be a great event and we are well prepared. As usual we will offer our players the most awesome hospitality imaginable.

Anyway, there was a time where we actually had some competition, it was known as the Svensson Era. The Kristian Svensson Era, that is.

Kristian Svensson

Kristian was the Live Event Manager of Bwin and has been in the poker business for many years. He was extremely well liked by the players and i would go as far as saying he was the biggest profile of the GSOP series. How ever, everything that has a beginning, has an end, as the Matrix Oracle poetically puts it and last autumn Kristian decided that he wanted to pursue new adventures and left Bwin after a life on the road the past two years.

For many events, Kristian was the one who always made the day a little more colorful with the craziest bets imaginable. My personal favorite is when Kristian challenged BetssonErik at a game of Ninjump on the iPad. Erik who had never played the game wanted some sort of edge, and Kristian accepted to only play with his foot. You had to see it to appreciate it I guess, but the sight of Kristian playing ipad games for money, with his foot, was one to remember.

GSOP Prague in December was Kristians official good bye event, and he did it as a Betsson player. Some of Kristians most loyal ex players wanted Kristian to go out with a bang. They bought the smart looking Kristian a Rolex watch. But they didn't want him to get the present that easily. They also bought a fake one and came up with a plan...

In Prague, they took Kristian out to dinner where they eventually gave him the present, the fake present that is. Kristian who loves expensive brands and clothes was overwhelmed with joy of receiving what he believed was a real Rolex. He made several statements during the dinner to show his appreciation.

After investigating the Rolex carefully, he put it on his wrist and concluded "I know quality when i see it". And thus was his new nick name born. Kristian "I know quality when i see it" Svensson.

The players had a good laugh during the next 24 hours when Kristian proudly wore his watch, showing it off to everyone that he met.

The next day, the players told Kristian to meet them in the hotel lobby bar for one last surprised. Kristian was very excited and humbled by the nice gesture and came down to the lobby bar were about 15 people had gathered. Once there, Kristian again showed off his watch to the few that hadn't seen it yet. The players explained that they had one last gift, and gave Kristian another box. When he opened it, he found another box which had "Rolex" all over it. Now Kristian was really confused. He opened the Rolex box and found another watch, which of course was the real one. "Another one?!" Kristian said confused, and everyone started laughing hysterically. The players explained what was going on and how hard of a time they had had to not start give anything away during the dinner the previous night when Kristian "I know quality when i see it" Svensson had investigated the clock carefully and made several remarks what good quality the watch was.

Kristian also admitted that the watch had actually broken the very first night, but didn't have the guts to tell anyone about it.

I hope Kristian will return to more events, he is already missed!

The power of one

In my family we have a rich history of quite active people when it comes to sport. Myself has done almost all sports in the book, and has finally found the sport that suits me like a pair of gloves, MMA.

My brother has chosen a different path, classic body building. He is actually one of swedens finest, if not the best of them all. For 11 years he has been training pretty much full time, with no breaks, five days a week, day in day out. The result speak for it self. His friend Niclas is now filming his second "documentary" about Henrik, where we can follow his daily routine and day to day life. It's in Swedish, but probably worth a look anyway. His discipline and focus on his goals are truly remarkable, i look up to that very much.

Wikipedia closed down today to highlight SOPA/PIPA

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Today, Wikipedia is shut down to highlight the effects that might take place if SOPA/PIPA is enforced in the states. To put it short, it would strike a big blow to the free internet if these propositions got approved, and it's absolutely INSANE that these politicians are actually considering to approve them. How ever not surprising since these people are not the most internet friendly men.

These propositions have been the big discussion on the internet the last couple of months. The link site Reddit will also follow and shut down their site to highlight this issue. It's mainly the entertainment business that has been lobbying for these changes to take place to try and minimize the pirating that goes on, on the web. the effect would be that if i for example post a link (yes, link) to a pirated movie on a site like Reddit, Reddit would break the law, allowing the link the get uploaded. The would naturally be a disaster to the free web.

THE DAY HAS COME!

Today, at 6PM, the ink will be forever stung into our Poker Coordinator Emils body.

After losing the candy bet a month ago, where he had to eat 3.8 kilo candy in 24 hour, it's now time for the punishment. Emil declared his defeat after eating 2 kilos of candy (about 8,500 kcal).

The design of the tattoo has been decided.

I wish Emil Good luck. An update will follow.

Betsafe Thumb Wrestling championship, Vegas 2011

This summer Betsafe was in Las Vegas during the WSOP Main Event. With us, we had some players that had managed to qualify for the Event. One of them was Tobias, one of our VIP player, who also brought his Friend, Toby with him for two weeks of gambling, alcohol and what not.

One night the art of Thumb wrestling came up in a conversation and after a while, an epic battle between Sweden (me) and Austria (Tobias) was set up with all the honor in the world on the line. The result you can see below.

I expect a new Betsafe championship this summer in Vegas!

Zero or Hero?

Some of us has amazing talent, while others likes to think they have amazing talent. Just look at American Idol, X factor or any other of these talent shows. At Betsafe, we do indeed have talent as well, especially among the players. Heidi for example in the poker team, she has a talent in the luck game "99" which is constantly played during our lunches at the office. Does that make her a hero? Probably not.

Betsafe player Chris does have an amazing talent as well. He can drink Absinthe AND play the piano (however probably not at the same time). Super human, awesome, hero.

MMA training at Maverick MMA

Me and a guy named Callum started to do MMA classes a while back. It's great fun to teach and the guys (and ladies) are really eager to learn, which makes it way easier for us. This saturday we focused on techniques from the mount position.

If you live in Malta and want try. Please don't hesitate to come down :)

Pubs and brawls

Friday was supposed to be a mellow night but turned out quite the opposite...

After a nice little pre party at mine and Emils place, Me, Emil. Isabelle the Betsson call centre agent and  Jonas "Nightmare" the Betsafe Casino Co ordinator went out for a drink at this pub/nightclub called Ryans, which is like 200 meter from where we live. Like always, Jonas lost all bets and had to pay for drinks all night, poor guy is born unlucky. Any ways, on our way out all hell broke loose after me accidentally bumped in to this guy, no biggie, happens all the time when you are at crowded places, but some people just look for an excuse to fight.

Emil, the white night as he is, was stepping in between to try and prevent the fight when a guy comes in from nowhere and sucker punches him on the nose. Blood everywhere etc. and Emil manages to get out before taking more shots, how ever, the group turns towards me again and about 4 people attacks. Now, I'm probably not the best choice when picking people to fight with, with a couple of years of competative MMA training, how ever I'm also a pretty calm guy and I rarely get fired up. They were throwing punches at me for about two minutes and i felt like a god dam Jedi blocking punches. To be fair, the guys were pretty small and had a hard time reaching my face with their hands. A couple of guys eventually stepped in between and stopped the fight. Conveniently there was a police station just a minute away, I got some cops, pointed out two of the guys that was throwing punches and they got arrested. As for Emil, he was OK. He has broken his nose before. The warrior actually called me from the hospital and said "Pierre, let's meet at the pub for a drink in 10".

Sweden winning the youth world hockey cup

Pretty insane tournament by the youngsters and Swedish media has gone absolutely insane over this win.

From 0-3 to 4-3 over Russia after over time
From 0-2 to 3-2 over Finland after shootouts
1-0 over Russia after over time in the final

Emils candy bet

We had a bet with our Poker coordinator Emil about two weeks ago. He was supposed to eat 3.8 KILO candy in 24 hours. If he made it, he would get €1000, but if he didn't, he had to make a pink tattoo of our favorite swedish candy, ahlgrens bilar.

Emil starting the candy bet strong

He didn't make it....

After one hour and 0.5kg candy he realized he would never make it. However, instead of giving up, he aimed to win all his side bets. He had side bets of a total of €350 if he made 1850-2000 gram. In the end of the day and after about 9 hours of eating candy, he was up at 1.2 kilos. He had until 4PM the day after to finish the 2 kilos. After fighting through the urge to vomit during the final day he actually managed to finish the 2 kilos with 10 minutes to go. And so he won his €350. Unfortunately for emil, he also has to make a tattoo, a pint tattoo, that is. And it's going to happen sometime next week.

Oh and did I mention that he is extremely scared of needles? :)
